Madison , WI

The State of Wisconsin's King Day Celebration is the oldest in the country.  In its 26th year, this year Tony Brown, journalist, PBS Host and Dean of the school of communications at Hampton University and Attorney Fred Gray will be guest for the King Celebration. In addition, invitations have been extended to James Herbert Cameron and Claudette Colvin to come in person and receive lifetime achievement awards. James Cameron is the founder of the American Black Holocaust Museum in Milwaukee, and the only living individual who survived a lynching. He is 91 years old. Claudette Colvin was arrested nine months prior to Rosa Parks at the age of 15 for not giving up her seat on the bus. Both Mr. Cameron and Ms. Colvin have recently received awards for their heroic acts.

Kirk Whalum's appearance would include conducting a 1-hour master class with students from a local area high school jazz band.
